The best time of year for the Picos de Europa traverse

The classic window to traverse the Picos runs from June to October. In June the days are long and there's often still some snow around, which gives a real alpine feel — though you'll want the right kit.

July and August are the most settled months, with the huts running at full capacity; the trade-off is more people. September is often my favourite: good weather, fewer crowds and beautiful light at dusk.

October can hand you unforgettable days, but you have to keep a close eye on the forecast. Whenever you come, we adapt the itinerary to make the most of the season.
